GOBIS: FEEHAN HELPS WITH RULES

The Shamrocks are teaching tools, that is Nancy Semple's Bishop Feehan High girls' lacrosse team.

In the offseason, she had been corresponding with the U.S. Lacrosse Rules Committee regarding the increased level of aggressive play in the girls' game. For the 2009 season, the Rules Committee instituted changes such that girls receiving yellow cards will no longer be allowed to have a substitute on the field for them during the 3-minute penalty period and girls receiving red cards will be ejected from that game as well as the next game their team is scheduled to play.

The Rules Committee produced a DVD, which was made available to coaches and umpires nationwide and three plays from Bishop Feehan games are highlighted. In one an opponent covering Ashley Rainha swings her stick in an up motion toward Ashley's face, another where Cori Semple takes a direct hit to the face from someone's stick, and a third when the latter gets hit in the back of the head from someone's stick after she takes a shot on net.
